What is a Calendar in Watch?

Calendar Complications

Calendar complications exist in addition to the date complications already mentioned. These complications offer the watch wearer accurate display the month of the year. Nonetheless, in some scenarios, they are considered as not so popular while some may deem them kind of irrelevant. Regardless of this, they still are complications worth knowing about.

Watches with complications will undergo a reset every month after completing cycles of 24-hours 31 times. However, the reality is we have months with an irregular number of days and the leap year. With this in mind, watch builders have put together complications to better follow our calendars. Advanced complications have been crafted to display calendars accurately without the need for monthly adjustments. A sufficiently wound and operational watch will display a functional and accurate calendar complication.

Types of Calendars

This complication adds the current year onto the other date complications. The annual calendar also stands as a transitional complication between the triple calendar and perpetual calendar. Furthermore, it should be noted that leap years are not accounted for in this complication. To transition date and month from February to March you will have to adjust the date manually.

  • Perpetual Calendar

Even the complex leap year is taken int account in this date complication. This complication will need adjustment in the year 2100 as the leap year is set to be ignored then.

  • Equation of Time (EOT)

At the peak of the calendar, watches stands the Equation of Time perpetual calendar. The EOT complication is spectacular in that it measures in minutes the difference in what we know as “calendar time” and the real “solar time”.
