Nomos watches are undoubtedly a high-style and high-quality watches. But what makes them so unique, and how do the Nomos model differentiate one from another?

In this review, I’ve included a brief history of the company, which would explain more about the production process of these amazing timepieces. You can also read more about attractive models and their features and prices on the market.

The Quality Of Nomos Watches

Nomos Glashutte, a German brand, continues to gain recognition across the globe and in the United States.

The history of Nomos Glashutte is a long one. The company praises on tradition and ingenuity in following the new market trends with constant innovations.

Nomos Glashutte is known for producing high-quality, sharp, clean, fully-functional, and intriguing watches.

Today, Nomos is the largest producer of mechanical watches in all Germany. The company history is extensive, starting a few months after the fall of the Berlin Wall, with the constant search for improvements to their models.

I will list some of those improvements, which will explain why this company stands competitive in the market until the present day.

  • In the early days, Nomos Glashutte was known for its outstanding hand-wound movements. Since then, they are adding more and more automatic calibers, which are equally precise and just as thin.

Up to 2005, Nomos used Swiss-made movements for their models. But since then, they have started with developing and building in-house movements, beginning with Alpha (first manual winding caliber).

Although the same Alpha caliber can still be found in some of the models, the development of new in-house movements never stopped.

Today, the company is proud of its Beta, Gamma, Delta calibers, and innovations that come with each new caliber.

Automatic movements started in 2006, also with introducing new calibers and new unique features with almost every new model.

  • In the year 2014, The company introduced a new in-house built escapement: the Nomos Swing System.

The escapement is a tiny motor within the watch that makes it possible to tick and tock.

Escapements are incredibly beautiful components and with no room for error. Hardly any company in the world has managed to produce in-house escapement in series.

  • Neomatik – soon after the swing system, the first neomatik caliber, DUW 3001 arrived. These flatter and finer motors present motors of the new generation

DUW 6101: neomatik date, a high-end mechanism from Glashütte with some new features that will allow you to set the date, quick and easily, forwards, or backward.

  • Some of the unique features you can find in Nomos models are:
  • Stop-seconds mechanism fine adjustment in six positions; Glashütte-style Nomos stopwork;  tempered blue screws, sunburst finish on the ratchet and crown wheel, swan-neck fine adjustment, 84-hour power reserve and so on.

Aside from the technical upgrades and high-quality, Nomos watches are also known and loved for their elegant design.

In the beginning, the design for the first collection was made by  Susanne Günther, inspired by the Bauhaus purist style. Their watches are known for clean, elegant, and modernist aesthetics.

So if you want a high-quality watch with a simple yet luxurious design, then one of the Nomos models is right for you.

Nomos Lines of Watches

Nomos is a brand known for its clear sense of identity. You can always tell the difference when you see any of their models randomly.

Nomos heritage involves luxurious designs and unique in-house movements, which goes for all of their models.

Nomos has 11 separate lines of watches, and each collection stands out by some unique feature and its case design.

Tangente

The Tangente is the watch you show people when you want to introduce Nomos to them.

Nomos Tamgente is one of the most famous lines of Nomos technology.

It is the definition of the company. Known for its thin, elegant case and bold Arabic numerals, Tangente comes in a variety of sizes to suit your needs.

From 33mm up to 38mm, it is ideal for all gender (with 33mm being a great size for women). All Tangentes use Nomos’ in-house hand-wound movements and comes with a Power Reserve compilation.

The Tangomat

Nomos Tangomat is an upgraded version of Tangente, and the major difference is that the Tangomat is automatic.

It is styled beautifully with blue hands (on most of the models) and some bold Arabic numerals.

The case is quite similar to that of Tangente but varies slightly in thickness, primarily to accommodate the automatic movement.

The Tangomat is one of the only two models which offer a wide variety of world time zones. Amazing, isn’t it?

When it comes to sizes, Tangomat runs larger than the Tangente, with most models being about 38mm and the largest at 40mm.

The Tangomat Ruthenium is a model that comes with a black dial.

The Ludwig

For those who love the Tangente and Tangomat, but prefer Roman numerals, this model is the real deal for them.

It distinguishes itself from earlier mentioned models with the stylish railroad track around its dial for minute ticks.

It is available in both hand-wound and automatic movements, with or without a date.

Ludwig also comes in a variety of sizes from 33mm for ladies up to 40mm.

The Ahoi

Nomos Ahoi is one of the most recent editions to Nomos. It is the only watch with a screw-down crown and significant water resistance ability (around 200m).

It is fully automatic with Arabic numerals with large spacing. In style, it is similar to Tangente.

There are two basic variants- Atlantik Blue and the original white dial. The Atlantik version has the gold hands and some black dots around the dial, which gives a green glow at night.

However, both models have an optional date compilation.

The Club

The Club was Nomos’ first sports watch. It offers both automatic and manual movement with or without a date.

The club is also one of the brand’s larger watches with sizes ranging between 36mm and 41.5mm.

The Metro

The Metro is one of the brand’s newest models with its advent in 2014. It is also in the brand’s “Bold Category”.

The Metro is the first Nomos to be co-designed with outside aid. The design, although different from the rest of the models, won the company a German design award.

Another exciting feature of this category is a new movement. The Metro is the first watch to receive the Nomos’ new swing system, a full in-house escapement, and a blue hairspring.

They are 37mm in size, making them a standard difference between the smaller and larger Nomos options.

The Tetra

This category contains only square watches. The watches are available in a wide variety of colors. Although unisex, this model is mostly worn by women, primarily due to its demure size.

The category offers watches as small as 27mm. However, this doesn’t alter the fact that they are beautifully crafted. A common feature of all Tetras is the excellent hand-wound movements.

This feature helps to keep them extra thin. Wearing Tetras would, without a doubt, give you an elegant look.

The Zurich

The Zurich, also known as Weltzeit (German equivalent of GMT), is the brand’s executive collection. It boasts of a simple look with its design containing no numerals.

However, its simplicity doesn’t make it any less than other models. This category contains one of the most impressive pieces — Blaugold.

This category is ideal for boardrooms and corner offices. The Zurich is also the only second collection to offer a worldwide complication, with the Tangomat taking the lead.

Watches in this category are one of the most stunning pieces to ever come out of Germany.

The Orion

This category is one of the brand’s largest collections. It contains various watches of different colors and sizes, each with a distinct feature.

Just like the Zurich category, it eliminates all forms of numerals. However, it comes with a manual wind only and comes in a much wider variety of sizes.

A popular model in this category is the Orion 33 Rose, a trendy one for ladies. It exhibits a petite 33mm size and thin manual wound movement, thus making it an ideal choice for women who want a manual mechanical watch.

The Lambda

The Lambda is one of the biggest high-end watches ever made by Nomos. It was initially introduced with only a white dial in either white gold or rose gold.

Later, a white gold model with a blue dial was released in 2014. The collection consists of watches made out of precious metal and does not offer date complication.

However, they do boast of a power reserve complication, exhibiting an impressive 84-hour stamina. The Lambda is mostly strictly considered dress watches.

The Lux

Just like The Lambda, all Lux watches are made from precious metal. Watches in this collection are tonneau-shaped and are a companion to the high-end Lambda.

Although it lacks the power reserve complication present in Lambda, it exhibits an impressive 84-hour power reserve, gold cartons, and luxurious decoration.

Unlike the Nomos Lambda brand, Lux is available in many more colorful, attractive, and scintillating designs from yellow to bright baby blue.
